Big Bucks Blogger

Lucia Liljegren comments on blogs about making money blogging.

About Me! The Ultimate Vanity Search.

Recently, Bill Kruse who writes under the name SEO BBpointed out a blogging lapse: My “About Me” page is a bit, shall we say, terse? It says only this:

Hi!
I’m Lucia. Big Bucks Blogger is my site for posting about making a little money while blogging. I also post regularly at a The Knitting Fiend.

I wrote that the day I installed Wordpress on this domain, and have never gone back to look at it. Recently, I’ve noticed some hits to my “about me” page; clearly, I need a real one.

But I don’t like describing myself. So, where to begin?

Google!

I decided the best way is to Google Lucia Liljegren. I’ll comment on the top 10 results returned, which are:

  1. I am married to the mechanical engineer who is discussed in: Scientist in arctic longer than expected. (I am no-following that because I have decided I want to see what it takes to knock an “.edu” site off the top spot in Google!)
  2. I own a knitting machine and sometimes write something called “pattern generators”. (One of my goals was to teach myself php, perl and javascript etc. These little codes are useful for that.)
  3. I do indeed write Big Bucks Blogger
  4. I do indeed write The Knitting Fiend. Many of the pattern generators can be found there. Yes, I also crochet, and sometimes post about that at my knitting blog.
  5. I did a stint as a Postie. In fact, interacting with PayPerPost and the Posties, and observing Postie blogs were the inspiration for Big Bucks Blogger (which I think is mostly my forum where I comment on on blogs about blogs and blogs about making money blogging.)
  6. I have a Twitter account under the name ‘lucialiljegren’.
  7. I used to air my views about Same Sex Marriage
  8. rather regularly. I stopped blogging about that because I found myself over-reacting to comments. (I’ve learned to handle these better: I find myself quite able to ignore them these days.)

  9. Shao Lee Soo was my Ph. D. advisor.

If you go on to pages 2, 3, 4… you can learn more and more about me. (Yes, I like the web. Yes, I am a dilettante. Yes, I have a lot of time on my hands. :) )

I’m pretty darn obscure, but Google sure knows who I am!

What can’t you learn at Google?

Bill Kruse asked if I am Lucia of “Lucia’s Linky Love”: Yes.

He didn’t ask if I was tempted to call my Wordpress plugin “Lucia Liljegren’s Linky Love”, or “LLLL” for short: I was. That would have given people a truly distinctive search word to help them find the item. (There are benefits to uncommon names.)

I’ve also written these plugins:

What can I learn about “Lucia Liljegren” using Mahalo?

Recent visitors know I’ve been enjoying Mahalo, the search engine Jason Calacanis is promoting!

As long as I’m having fun doing a Google vanity search, I entered “Lucia Liljegren” in Mahalo. I was happy to see that Jason has not wasted the Venture Capitalist’s money to create a human edited search page for my name. Plus, I discovered my name is correlated with:

  1. “Michelle Rodriguez”: She played “Ana-Lucia” in “Lost”. She’s an excellent actress; I’m not.
  2. “Minneapolis and St. Paul Restaurants”: I found “Lucia’s Restaurant and Wine Bar ” on the list of links. I like food and wine! :)
  3. “Portland, OR Hotels”: “Hotel Lucia” is linked. I’ve been to Portland; my Godfather, Uncle Joe, lives there.
  4. “Naples Hotels”: Evidently, if you go to Naples, you can rest your weary bones in the “Grand Hotel Santa Lucia”.

Wow! (Oh, and Jason, if you are reading this, the reason Mahalo Follow is as fun as Pacman has very little to do with content in the sidebars or links to RSS feed. Take it from a gal who still thinks ‘pdf’ means ‘probability density function’, the problem with Mahalo’s ’synchronous search’ is in your correlation algorithm. Google’s is excellent; Mahalo’s is deficient.)

What can Mahalo teach you about me?

It turns out you can learn that I enjoy the irony that VC’s have invested so much money on something that shows so little promise. :)

Indeed there are. I am the only Big Bill Kruse that’s in Google. The only one anywhere, apparently.

I’m sure there must be a Lucia Liljegren somewhere in Sweden. But I’ve checked online phone books, and I may be the only one in the US.

No Link Love Lucy’s either, I’ll bet!

Luce, are you going to do a dofollow plugin for forums too? It seems to be the obvious thing for the dofollow movement to go sweeping through the forums too because obviously as with blogs the smart commentators will be going to those commenting environments that do them the most perceived good.
Obviously I’m commenting on matters of great import here for that very reason :-) :-)
Everything changes so much on the web. To survive, we have to learn to dance through the now. Increasingly, a lesson for life, that.

The link on your husband is not working. Don’t let him see you gave him a broken link on your blog :)

    Hey Lucia,

I read your blog often and I know how passionate you are about finding new ways to create wealth online. I’m a marketing guy myself, and I was recently hired to run a campaign for this new social network. It actually has a pretty tempting affiliate offer, and I think either you (and/or your readers) would love to hear about it. Check out the info below, and if you have any questions let me know!:

Like you, I’m an ardent fan of all things entertainment. That’s one of the reasons I am so excited to be a part of a new company called Fanista.com. It is a web site made for real, impassioned fans. The site’s community is focused exclusively on music, DVDs, games and books, and is a place where members can share their reviews and opinions as well as shop. In its simplest form, Fanista.com is an attempt to replicate online what we all do in the physical world: champion the artists and entertainment we love. Also, like the real world, there is NO charge or subscription fee to do what it is we all do so naturally.

I’d really love for you to be one of the first reviewers. Why? Well, to be honest, we need you — someone smart, inspiring and articulate to help us build the foundation of the community. From what I’ve read of your writing, seems you fit the mold.

And we’re willing to reward you for your efforts if you’re interested. Through our unique “Common Interest Commerce,” or “CIC,” rewards program, users who become CIC members can earn up to two levels of commission: 5% of every purchase made by the friends they bring in, and, when their friends become CIC members, another 5% of every purchase made by the friends of their friends. Users can also earn insider perks and achieve social status for establishing themselves as tastemakers and “experts” when they share their voice and loves with the Fanista.com community at large. It’s our way of rewarding the people who help us build the community.

Fanista.com is a way for you to amplify your voice, to let others hear what you have to say, to influence the people around you…and to get something tangible in exchange for all of it. So, check it out. Sign up. Bring your friends. Earn some cash. Get other perks. Change the world — or at least help us try to pioneer a new model!

hi lucia, I read one of your comment at :
    http://www.chrisg.com/when-good-plugins-go-bad-comment-relish-considered-dangerous/

You said that you wrote a plugin that lets you at least see which plugins that run when you load a page use a lot of time.

Is there a way for me to use that plugin ?

Because my website is getting up and down recently because of my hosting said its using too much resources, and I don’t even know what cause it. The hosting doesn’t know either.

After checking the ip address, I noticed that yahoo and google spider need 50-70 seconds just to access my index.php. When I try to open my own website, it only took about few seconds to load all the page.

    Hey Lucia,

I was out riding my trike the other day when the thought came to me, “I wonder what became of Lucia Tiernan?” I think this might have been the dying gasp of one the last neuron sets devoted to “Lucia Tiernan” because all else I can remember about you is your smile and flashing eyebrows.

Highland Junior High? Broke all the public school boys’ hearts when you decided to go to Lake Forest Academy? I’ve always hoped you left a trail of broken hearts through college and grad school! Assuming you are her.

I wouldn’t expect you to remember me. Feel free to remove this kind of personal stuff from your page.

    Fondest regards.
