If you want to make money, it’s important to have traffic but also get the traffic counted. Yesterday, I showed how to get counted by Alexa. Today, I’ll show how to get counted by Quantcast.
Since I figure you want to do even more than you want to understand, I’ll tell you want to do first. Then, I’ll explain why.
First: Visit Quantcast’s publisher sign in page by clicking here. Sign up. After signing up, look at the top of the page and find “My Sites”. Click. Now, scroll down. Find the javascript. Add that to the top page of your site. (If you look at the source of my top page Big Bucks Blogger you’ll see the javascript.)
Afterwards add the javascript to the footer of your blog template. (If you view my blog page source and scroll down, you’ll see the javascript there.)
Then, go back to Quantcast, and enter your domain name in the box. (Just the top name: for me that would be http://www.bigbucksblogger.com . ) Click, and Quantast will start logging all your site visits.
You’re now done with the “do” part.
Ok… so now for the “Why?” bit.
Qantcast statistics are public and available for everyone to see. (These are the statistics for my money blog: Big Bucks Blogger. If you are here the day I post this, there will be no data- the blog is new. These are the statistics for dieting sites. )
Because these are public, some advertisers will look at Quantcast to learn how many visitors come to your site. These statistics will affect how much some are willing to pay.
Unfortunately, if you don’t add the javascript traffic counter, Quantcast uses its own mystery methods to estimate your traffic, and it’s pretty likely they will many of the visits. And since at least someadvertisers look at this, they’ll think your site gets very few visits. Then, advertisers won’t want to pay you much.
If you eventually want to make money, add the javascript. Then the visits you get will be logged.
Ok.. So does this work? I’m not sure! I added the Quantcast.com javascript to the knitting site two days ago; that is 5/1/07. We can watch and see what happens to the traffic graph!
Ok… so now that you’ve read this: you do still need to build traffic. So, go write another blog entry on the topic of your choice. You need those to start getting traffic.
I tagged you.
