Look! My blog gets traffic. Or so says Compete, a traffic ranking service.
Looks like he’s catching up though. But bear in mind, knitting blogs get lots of traffic during the winter; traffic drops during the summer knitting lull. So, I may still be ahead of John in January! (I’ll cross my fingers and hope for a an early winter that forces us to break out the needles early.)
I’ll come clean and state the obvious: The Compete tool bar is wildly inaccurate.
Earlier this year, I discovered this toolbar, and “showed” that my knitting site has as much traffic as Wendy of Wendy Knits. We conferred by email and then she posted a rather insignificant link to my sock knitting resources. The hour she posted, my blog visits exploded! (Turns out Wendy Knits gets 30-50 times the traffic The Knitting Fiend does.)
Now… if only I can get John Chow to read this and link me the way Wendy did!
Foot note: If you think I’ve gamed Compete intentionally, I have not. I don’t know how to do game Compete. Also, if you think the results are due to traffic to the non-knitting blog parts of my site: it’s not. According to my web logs, the knitting blog gets 90% of the traffic.
