Michell of Smart not Cheap requested a recommendation for a comments widget for her Wordpress blog. I needed to add recent comments to my sidebar, so I told her I’d find a plugin for her. I did a bit of hunting, and found Show Unread Comments.
“Show Unread Comments” displays comments a particular visitor has not yet read, tracking using cookies. I installed it last evening and verified it worked for me. My list now shows visitors only comments they have not yet read. (Visitors who don’t accept cookies will see all recent comments.)
Unfortunately for Michelle (a new Wordpress user just converted from Blogger) I never use widgets: I use conventional plugins. Even more unfortunately, this one requires pasting two snippets of code on your blog. One gets slapped into the sidebar and one gets slapped into the comments loop. Both procedures are easy, but can be difficult for a first time users.
However, since many great plugins are not available as widgets, learning to use plugins is something every new Wordpress users needs to do.
So, if Michelle has screen shot taking abilities (or even if she doesn’t), I’m willing to help her accomplish her task by email. I can overlay “x”s where the bits of code need to go and make other suggestions. I’ll even post the “lesson” at my blog if she likes. ![]()
Yep- I googled it, but I think when you are not tech savy like me, you don’t get the same results as other people. I could be lazy and let my husband do everything for me- but I don’t want to. That’s why I come to your site- so I can learn how to enhance my blogs myself. I don’t believe you are really blogging if you can’t fix or customize your own blog. I know that’s my opinion and other bloggers will disagree and it’s not meant to be mean or pointed. THANKS SO MUCH- Michelle
